Effects of Horse Chestnut Extract

Horse chestnut extract has the effect of shrinking hemorrhoids thanks to its anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, and strong stasis-relieving mechanisms.

– Anti-inflammatory: Aescin inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators by reducing leukocyte activation and adhesion.

– Reduce edema:

+ Horse chestnut extract increases sensitivity to calcium ions, reduces capillary permeability and increases venous contractility, thereby improving venous strength and having a wound healing effect. As a result, edema and swelling are reduced.

+ The anti-edematous properties of aescin are partly due to its ability to inhibit tissue hypoxia and reduce ATP levels in endothelial cells. Reduced ATP levels in endothelial cells stimulate the release of prostaglandins, platelet-activating factor, and neutrophil chemotaxis, leading to venous congestion and edema.

– Venous support: due to its ability to increase the production of Prostaglandin F2. Prostaglandin F2 inhibits the catabolism of mucopolysaccharides in venous tissue and improves the contractility of veins.

According to a double-blind, controlled study by French scientists, conducted on 72 patients, in which the research group took 40mg of Aescinate, 3 times a day for 2 months. The results showed that the patients improved their symptoms on average after 6 days of treatment. Of the 38 patients using Aescinate, 31 cases, accounting for 82%, had significant improvement in symptoms (pain, itching, burning, swelling), compared to only 11 patients, accounting for 32%, out of a total of 34 people in the control group using placebo. Endoscopic evaluation showed a significant reduction in bleeding in 26 patients using Aescinate compared to 13 patients in the placebo group, as well as reduced swelling in 29 patients using Aescinate compared to 12 in the placebo group...

Also according to the Chinese Journal of Medicine, a 2012 clinical study evaluated the effects of active ingredients in the extract. horse chestnut on 177 patients with grade I internal hemorrhoids - showed that after 7 days of use, symptoms of bleeding, anal pain, prolapse level and hemorrhoid size in both groups improved significantly with a rate of 87% in the group using oral Aescinate and 95.4% in the group using intravenous Aescinate.
